So this is how their day played out ...
I arrived at the Chapel of Harris Manchester College only to be filled with musical delight as I entered. Two of Michelle's friends were practising the piece of music they were going to play as Michelle walked in. Soon Michael arrived with a slight nervous twinkle in his eye. He had been planning this for months. Finally this was the day he was going to propose to the love of his life!
Michael invited many of their friends and tutors to witness this special surprise proposal. As they all arrived, the cunning plan was being played out to get Michelle into the Chapel. I can honestly say I have not been this nervous on a shoot, with actual butterflies in my stomach. We all waited in anticipation for Michelle to be enticed in by the music.
When she walked in, her confused face was a mixture between shock and tears. I'm not sure of the exact moment when she figured out what was happening, but the room was filled with excitement and love, everything seemed to happen far too quickly.
My camera was shaking from my own excitement, tears and laughter. Michael was then down on one knee and Michelle was saying yes through floods of happy tears. I felt so privileged to witness and capture this incredible moment.
"She said yes!!!" I called out, not being able to help myself, while capturing these amazing photos.
Outside, whilst taking photos around this picturesque college, Michelle was grilling Michael with lots of questions. “Do my parents know, what did they say, when did you ask them, how did they react?"
I tagged along to their champagne toast in a nearby pub and got to meet and chat to some of their friends. It was such a wonderful day, I walked away thinking how much I truly love my job. I meet the most interesting people and get to tell their amazing story for years to come.
The wedding will be in Hong Kong (I am more than happy to come over there to photograph this Michael and Michelle!) Failing to convince them of this option, I'm sure they will be back for their UK wedding party!
Huge congratulations to Michelle and Michael, and I hope to see you again soon!
These are some of my favourites ....
(P.S. In Hong Kong the tradition is to wear the engagement ring on the middle finger, just incase you are thinking Michelle put it on the wrong finger!)
